Terms of Use

By downloading or using Stepple, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. License

Stepple grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, subject to the Apple App Store Terms of Service and these terms.

2. Stepple+ Subscription

Stepple+ is an optional auto-renewing subscription available as a monthly or yearly plan, billed through your Apple ID.

Plans and pricing:

• Stepple+ Monthly — $4.99 USD per month. Renews every month.
• Stepple+ Yearly — $39.99 USD per year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Renews every year. Prices in other currencies are set by Apple's regional pricing tiers and shown on the in-app purchase screen before you buy.

What you get: Access to premium pets, custom backgrounds, parallax effects, heart shape and color customization, pattern overlays, Live Activity support, and one free premium pet hatch per subscription cycle. The specific pets, backgrounds, and other content classified as premium may change over time as Stepple adds new content or reclassifies existing content.

• Payment is charged to your Apple ID at purchase confirmation.
• Subscription automatically renews at the end of each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the price listed above (or the then-current price for your region).
• You can manage and cancel your subscription in Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions.
• No refunds are provided for unused portions of a subscription period, except as required by applicable law.
• If your subscription lapses, premium-only features (custom backgrounds, parallax, heart customization, pattern overlays) revert to defaults. Any active premium pet is retired and a free pet is activated automatically.
• The 7-day free trial on the yearly plan is available only to new subscribers. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when the paid period begins. You can cancel during the trial in Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions to avoid being charged.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app
• Use the app in any way that violates applicable law
• Circumvent any in-app purchase or subscription mechanism
• Submit text in any user-editable field (including pet names, leaderboard names, and display names) that:
  • infringes any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
  • is defamatory, harassing, threatening, or abusive toward any person
  • is sexually explicit, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate for general audiences
  • impersonates another person or misrepresents your affiliation with any person or entity
  • contains hate speech or promotes violence or unlawful activity
  • contains spam, phishing, or links to malicious content

4. User Content

Stepple lets you enter text in a small number of fields, including pet names, leaderboard names, and display names ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content.

By submitting User Content, you represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to it and that it does not violate Section 3 or any third party's rights. You grant Stepple a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and share your User Content within the app and its associated services as needed to provide the service — for example, displaying a leaderboard name to other members of a leaderboard you have joined.

Stepple does not pre-screen User Content and is not responsible for content submitted by users. Stepple may, at its sole discretion and without notice, remove or modify User Content that violates these terms, that we receive a complaint about, or that we believe in good faith is unlawful or otherwise objectionable. Stepple may also suspend or terminate your access to features that involve sharing content with other users.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the developer from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your User Content or your violation of this Section or Section 3.

5. Reporting Content or Users

To report User Content or another user's behavior that you believe violates these terms, email support@stepple.fit. Include enough detail to identify the content (such as the leaderboard name and the member involved). Stepple will review reports and take action it considers appropriate, which may include content removal, member removal from a leaderboard, or restriction of features.

If you believe content in the app infringes your copyright or other intellectual property right, contact support@stepple.fit with a description of the work, its location in the app, and your contact information. Stepple will review and respond promptly.

You can also block another leaderboard member directly from within the app. Blocked members are hidden from your view and will not appear in your leaderboards or activity feeds.

6. Health Disclaimer

Stepple is a motivational app and is not a medical device. Activity data displayed in the app is sourced from Apple Health and is provided for entertainment and personal motivation only. Do not rely on this app for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making changes to your physical activity. For details on how your health data is handled, see the Privacy Policy.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, arising out of or in connection with your use of the app, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. The developer's total liability for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the app shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months preceding the claim.

9. Pet Data and Progress

The developer is not responsible for loss of in-app progress, virtual pet data, or subscription credits due to device failure, app deletion, operating system updates, or any other cause. Stepple automatically creates daily backups on your device. Backups are stored locally and are not synced to any server.

10. Diagnostic Logs

Stepple records diagnostic logs on your device to help troubleshoot bugs. These logs describe app behavior and do not contain your health data or pet name. When you export diagnostic logs, they are encrypted so that only the developer can read them. Stepple does not transmit diagnostic logs automatically. You choose whether to share them by exporting and attaching them to a support email. See the Privacy Policy for details.

11. Changes to the App or Terms

The developer reserves the right to modify or discontinue the app or these terms at any time. Material changes to these terms will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. External Services

Stepple integrates with external services including:

• Apple HealthKit — read-only access to activity and health data. Stepple does not write to Apple Health.
• Apple StoreKit — handles all subscription purchases and billing. The developer does not receive or store your payment information.
• iCloud Key-Value Storage — stores a single anonymous token for backup ownership verification.
• CloudKit — Apple's CloudKit public database is used for optional features you choose to enable. The referral program stores your anonymous referral code and redemption count when you visit Settings → Refer a Friend. Optional social features (such as leaderboards, friends, or shared goals) may, if you enable them, store information the app has about your activity and virtual pet — including (without limitation) activity values, progress metrics, pet state, achievement and accolade data, and connection identifiers — for sharing with the people you have chosen to connect with through that feature. The specific data shared will be disclosed at enrollment for each such feature and described in the Privacy Policy. Data stored in CloudKit is subject to Apple's CloudKit security model and privacy practices. To delete your CloudKit data, email support@stepple.fit.
• Analytics, diagnostics, and paywall service providers — Stepple may use service providers to process the anonymous app-usage, engagement, and diagnostic data described in the Privacy Policy. The current list of processors is maintained at stepple.fit/processors. No health data is shared with any such provider.

Use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. Additional services Stepple may use are described in the Privacy Policy.

13. Age Restriction

As described in the Privacy Policy, the app does not knowingly collect personal information from any user, including children. Users under the age of majority in their jurisdiction should review these terms with a parent or guardian.

14. Data on Uninstall

Uninstalling Stepple removes all locally stored data, including pet history, daily logs, backups, and diagnostic logs. The anonymous backup ownership token in iCloud Key-Value Storage may persist until your iCloud storage is cleared. Active subscriptions are not cancelled by uninstalling — manage them in Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions.

15. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

16. Severability

If any provision of these terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
